Steel Water Tank and Steel Tank: Galvanized Modular Systems

Kolleksan steel water tanks are modular steel tank systems formed by joining galvanized steel panels with bolted connections and a gasket system. They are designed for fire water, process water, irrigation and industrial storage needs and assembled on site without welding.

What Is a Steel Water Tank?

A steel water tank is a fixed storage system in which water is kept in a tank made of steel panels. In Kolleksan steel water tanks the panels are produced in the factory and joined on site with bolted connections and a gasket system to form a modular steel tank.

In everyday language, steel water tank and steel tank mostly describe the same product. Capacity, material, coating and connection details are determined separately for each project according to the liquid to be stored, the purpose of use and site conditions.

Steel Tank Material Options

The same modular panel system can be produced with different materials and coatings according to project requirements.

Galvanized Steel Water Tanks

Water tanks made of galvanized steel panels offer economical and durable solutions in fire water, process water and industrial storage projects.

Coated Steel Tanks

Panel surfaces can be prepared with coating options suited to the properties of the liquid to be stored and the project requirements.

Stainless Steel Water Tanks

AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel options are offered for projects that require high corrosion resistance and a cleanable surface.

Steel Tank Engineering and Equipment

In large-volume steel tanks, safety, structural strength and equipment integrity are handled together. Scope is determined per project.

Industrial tank anatomy
  1. Wind and structural strength

Wind rings and flange design are engineered to increase shell stability in tall tanks; the anchoring approach is determined by site data.

  2. Seismic and sloshing effects

Special calculations are made for roof and shell anchoring, internal reinforcements and seismic anchoring equipment based on seismic and wind data.

  3. Safe access

External access stairs, guardrails and platform systems are configured with operator safety in mind; lockable access hatches can be used.

  4. Equipment integrity

Pipe supports, level gauges, vortex inhibitors and optional insulation and heating elements can be added according to the project's operating requirements.

Galvanized or Stainless?

In steel water tanks, material selection is evaluated together with the project’s water, budget and operating conditions.

Standards and Certificates

Kolleksan can engineer bolted steel water tanks in line with the technical requirements of AWWA D103 and fire water tanks in line with NFPA 22 requirements. See our standards and certificates pages for details, and our cylindrical and rectangular water tank pages for tank geometries.

Frequently Asked Questions

A steel water tank is a fixed storage system in which water is kept in a tank made of steel panels. In Kolleksan modular steel water tanks, panels are produced in the factory and joined on site with bolted connections and a gasket system.

In everyday language they mostly describe the same product; steel tanks used to store water are called steel water tanks. For the difference between the terms, see our water tank guide.

It is a modular water tank made of galvanized steel panels. It offers economical and durable solutions in fire water, process water and industrial storage projects.

Kolleksan produces modular steel water tanks from 2 tons up to any capacity according to project needs. In agricultural water tanks, capacity can be engineered from 2 tons up to 20,000 tons.

Yes. Modular fire water tanks engineered in line with NFPA 22 requirements provide solutions for safely storing the water needed for sprinkler systems, fire hose cabinets and hydrant lines. See our standards page for details.

Panels are produced in the factory, shipped disassembled and joined with bolted assembly technology. No heavy labor or welding is required; our expert site teams complete assembly in a pre-planned order.
